Dear mountain people, dear friend of the mountain,

You live in the mountain and you know all about the day to day life of their populations. You do not live in mountain, but you like it, for its magnificent landscapes, the nobility of its inhabitants, their values to be preserved, their capacity to resist. In both cases the mountain is of great interest for you. You are sensitive to its assets as to its fights. Express it by your adhesion to WMPA. Join the militants who support its action in favour of the recognition of mountain territories and their populations everywhere in the world.

Our members (militant citizens, elected members, socio-professional associations, NGO’s, international organizations, researchers) fight since the creation of WMPA so that it gains in credibility, in legitimacy and in capacity of action. To reach this objective the WMPA needs the support of each of its militants. If you form part of them, the WMPA needs you. Do not hesitate any more to join this great movement of solidarity which makes it possible for our association to fulfil its mission of listening to and representing mountain people, by meeting them where they live and by accompanying them in their efforts to stop the marginalisation from which they still too often suffer, particularly in southern countries.

The project that we carry is extremely ambitious compared to modest means. It cannot be carried out without resources and the strong mobilization of all the militants. This is why I invite you, in the name of our bureau, to join or renew your adhesion to the WMPA, but also to mobilize around you your friends and your networks so that they join in their turn this large world chain of friendship and solidarity.

By creating the WMPA, the mountain people were dreaming of a world community of mountain people which would fight for shared values and a certain idea of the mountain - the inhabited mountain, the human mountain. These values are expressed in the Charter for world mountain people, a true declaration of love but also a political manifest of the daughters and sons of the mountain. Today the WMPA is a reality. It is our common inheritance. And the successes that we will gain tomorrow depend on your personal commitment today.
